There are so many activities planned for Lincoln Highway Day Saturday in Grand Junction that organizers had to start the fun on Friday.
A Friday night cribbage tournament will kick off Lincoln Highway Day. Play starts at 6 pm at the Grand Junction public library.
A poker run for cars and bikes is slated for Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm, with registration at the city park. Stops will be 209 Main in Paton, the Iron Saddle in Dayton and the Lucky Pig in Ogden, with the ride finishing at Ferg’s in Grand Junction. There is a $15 entry fee.
Bakers are invited to bring their best pies to a two crust pie baking contest. Entries should be taken to the Grand Junction United Methodist Church between 1 and 1:30 pm, with judging at 1:30. There will be adult and children’s categories.
No festival is complete without a parade. The Lincoln Highway Day parade will start at 2 pm on Main St.
The Off the Track Players will present a one-act play, Hurry Up and Wait, at 2:30 and again at 4:30 pm at the Presbyterian Church. The United Methodist Church will host an ice cream social from 6 to 7:30 pm.
Those who would like to snag East Greene jerseys while they’re still available will find them at an auction from 2:30 to 4 pm at the tennis court. A petting zoo will be available for children from 7 to 8:30 pm at the tennis court, and a live auction at 7:30.
There will be carnival games for children at the Main Street green space. There is a 25-cent per game charge.
The Grand Junction fire department will demonstrate its Jaws of Life tool at 3 pm at the fire station on Main St.
The Grand Junction city park will be the setting for a car and bike show from 3 to 5 pm, with a DJ providing music from 3 to 6 pm. A supper will be served at the park from 5 to 6:30 pm, with the newly refurbished shelter house dedicated to the late Wayne Emmett at 5:30.
The Town and Country Band, with members from all over Greene County and beyond, will perform in the park at 6 pm.
Registration for the 5K Glow Fun Run/Walk will start at 6 pm on Main St, with a Zumba warm-up offered by Danelle Mason from 7:15 to 8:15. The fun run/walk begins at 8:30 pm and will follow a course to the Lincoln Highway interpretive site and back. There is a registration fee, with proceeds to benefit the Grand Junction Community Center building fund.
The Kennedy museum and the Lincoln Highway visitor center and museum will be open all afternoon. There will also be free swimming at the Grand Junction municipal pool.
